What Is a “Total Tub Failure”?
A total tub failure means the inner tub of the dishwasher — the plastic or stainless steel chamber that holds water during the wash cycle — has cracked, corroded through, or separated at a seam. Water no longer stays inside the tub during operation. Instead, it leaks directly onto the floor or into the cabinet below.
Warning Signs Before a Full Failure
- Small puddles under or around the dishwasher after a cycle
- Water stains or warping on the cabinet floor under the unit
- Rust streaks on the inside tub walls or around the door seal
- Visible crack or pit in the inner tub — usually near the bottom
- Musty smell under the dishwasher
