If your gas oven won’t heat but the stovetop burners work fine, a weak or failed bake igniter is almost certainly the problem. In this video, we replace igniter part number 530935066 and walk through the full process. Here’s everything you need to know.
How to Confirm the Igniter Is the Problem
- Turn on the oven and watch the igniter through the oven window — it should glow bright orange within 30–90 seconds
- If it glows dim or takes longer than 90 seconds to glow, the igniter is weak and needs replacement
- If it doesn’t glow at all, test for power at the igniter connector with a multimeter
- Gas smell without ignition means gas is flowing but not lighting — turn off immediately and ventilate
Why Gas Oven Igniters Fail
The bake igniter in a gas oven has two jobs: it heats up to open the gas valve (acting as a heat sensor), and it provides the heat source to ignite the gas. Over time — usually 5–10 years of regular use — the igniter’s resistance increases as it ages. It still glows, but not hot enough to open the gas valve. This is why a “weak” igniter is almost as problematic as a dead one.
About Part 530935066
This igniter is used in Frigidaire, Kenmore, and some Electrolux gas ranges. It’s a flat-style igniter that mounts directly to the burner assembly at the bottom of the oven. Universal replacements are available, but OEM igniters tend to last longer and fit more reliably — we always use OEM parts at S&W.
Tools Needed for This Repair
- 1/4″ nut driver or socket
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Multimeter (to verify before replacing)
- Work gloves (ceramic igniters are fragile — avoid touching the element with bare hands)
Step-by-Step Replacement
- Unplug the range or turn off the gas supply
- Remove the oven racks and bottom oven panel (usually 2–4 screws)
- Locate the igniter on the burner assembly at the back of the oven floor
- Disconnect the wire harness (usually a 2-wire plug)
- Remove the mounting screws (usually 2) holding the igniter to the burner
- Install new igniter — do not touch the ceramic element with bare hands (oils cause early failure)
- Reconnect harness, reinstall panel, test
When to Call a Pro
If the igniter tests fine but the oven still won’t heat, the issue may be the gas valve, safety valve, or control board. These require more advanced diagnosis. S&W handles all gas appliance repairs in North Texas with same-day service available.
